Perthes' disease of the hip.

چکیده
It is now sixty years since Legg (1910), Calve (1910) and Perthes (1910) described the condition of coxa plana, or Perthes’ disease as it is more often called today, thus allowing its differentiation from the much more serious tuberculosis of the hip with which it had formerly been confused. It is ironical to find all these years later that a diagnosis of tuberculosis nowadays entails no more than a few months in hospital whereas a diagnosis of Perthes’ disease sometimes leads to a period of rest in bed with traction, splintage or plaster

Clinical Outcome of Femoral Osteotomy in Patients with Legg-Calve´-Perthes Disease
Background: Legg-Calve´-Perthes disease is a juvenile idiopathic osteonecrosis in which the blood supply of femoral head is not sufficient and the bone dies provisionally. The most commonly applied classification is based on radiolucency in the lateral pillar of the femoral head, which i...
متن کاملArthrodiastasis for late onset Perthes' disease using a simple frame and limited soft tissue release: early results.
Perthes' disease (Legg-Calvé-Perthes' disease) is relatively common in childhood, affecting 0.8/100.000 children. Late onset Perthes' disease, older than 8 years of age, constitutes about 20% of cases and is known for its aggressive course and poor outcome with chronic hip pain and stiffness. Although containment of the head in the acetabulum is the usual treatment for early cases, its results ...

Five atypical cases were observed amongst ninety children with Perthes' disease, ten of whom had bilateral hip joint involvement. All five were boys, four being under 4 years of age. Four had bilateral hip joint disease, four presented with hip pain, three showing some degree of retardation of bone growth. In one case the hip disorder was familial, and in four there were bony abnormalities else...

Perthes is a serious but self-limited disorder. If it is a self limiting disease, then why one should think of treating it. The aim of treatment is to prevent femoral head deformity and subsequent osteoarthrosis. There is still no clear guideline for the management of Perthes disease. This is because of the controversies in all most all the aspects of the disease; etiology, classification, natu...
متن کاملManagement of Late Onset Perthes: Evaluation of Distraction by External Fixator—5-Year Follow-Up
Background. Hip distraction in Perthes' disease unloads the joint, which negates the harmful effect of the stresses on the articular surfaces, which may promote the sound healing of the area of necrosis. We have examined the effect of arthrodiastasis on the preservation of the femoral head in older children with Perthes' disease. Methods and Materials. Twelve children with age more than 8 years...
